Ann, “the bank’s culture, friendliness and willingness to help”

Ann is based at SG Hambros’ Manchester office, where she is developing banking and wealth management services for private clients. As someone who worked for three other financial institutions before joining Société Générale, she is still surprised every day about the global extent of the Group’s activities as well as about its human face.

I’m Ann Taylor and I work in the Manchester office of SG Hambros, which is part of SG private banking. I’m head of the office in Manchester, and effectively what that means is that we operate as a sort of regional office to the London office, and we want to build a business serving private clients in banking and wealth management services. It’s a very new office; it’s only been open a very short time, so my responsibilities really are to bring in new clients, with personal - well - investable wealth of 1 million Euros or sterling equivalent. So I act as business development, I bring in new clients and service those as a client relationship manager. Well, I didn’t know that SG were going to open an office in Manchester until I received a telephone call from a recruitment consultant, who invited me to have a coffee, and I didn’t know that it was SG at the time. Obviously he talked to me quite a lot about what SG did, I came to meet some of the people, and I really, really did like what I saw and what I heard about it; in particular the client offering, which is very extensive, and the people and the culture of the company I thought was absolutely excellent. Since I’ve joined SG, I have to say I’ve been very pleasantly surprised at the true global extent of the group’s capabilities. I mean, I’d done a lot of research, and I did know that it was quite a big company, but every day I learn something more about the company and what we can do as a group, and I think that’s really exciting. I have to say I have worked now, I think this is the 4th bank I’ve worked for, and the other thing is it’s certainly the best bank I’ve worked for – the culture of the company, the friendliness of the staff, the willingness to help colleagues, particularly new colleagues, is absolutely outstanding.
