My name is Alex Bell and I’m an assistant private banker with SG Hambros, which is the private banking arm of the Société Générale group. I’ve been with SG Hambros now for just over a year and a half, having started my career 3 years ago during my 3rd year at university, when I took an internship in the summer of 2006. During my internship – in the summer of 2006 – I worked for the Russian team with SG Hambros, looking after high net worth Russian individuals. After my degree, having graduated with a degree in economics and French from Loughborough university, I was invited back to SG Hambros to the same team that I worked in for my internship, and since then I have progressed from being a private banking administrator to become now – my new role – assistant private banker. My day to day role is looking after high net worth individuals, mainly from Russia, and also those Russians that have emigrated to London and now live in London. I work with a relationship manager who has developed relationships with these clients and I look after their general daily needs, whether banking, investment or financial planning. Having been invited back for a full-time position at SG Hambros after my degree course, I found that it was definitely a place I wanted to work at, having spent my summer there and developed good relationships with all the team, and it was a great place to start my career. I feel at SG there is a great career path set out for me. I’ve had the opportunity to complete all my exams this year and develop greater responsibility in my work with private banking. It was a nice surprise when I joined SG to find the amount of opportunities there are to integrate with other entities, in terms of sport and on personal and social levels. And also within the work place itself. It’s always a great relief to know that after a hard day in the office, you always have the opportunity to go and play sport, or socialize with your work colleagues on a regular basis.
